I am in-network with most major insurance providers, making it easier for you to access the care you need. If your insurance plan is not part of my network, I can provide a superbill for reimbursement; however, please note that a superbill is not a guarantee of reimbursement and depends on your specific insurance plan. As required by Idaho law, I also offer a good faith estimate of the expected costs associated with my services to ensure transparency and help you make informed decisions about your care.
What type of concerns do we discuss?
Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders
PMADs encompass a range of emotional health conditions that can affect individuals during conception, pregnancy, and postpartum. This includes conditions such as postpartum depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PMADs can manifest in various ways, impacting a mother's mood, thoughts, and behaviors, and may also affect her ability to bond with her baby and engage in daily activities.

Impact on Mothers, Partners, and Families
PMADs not only affect mothers but can also have a significant impact on partners and family dynamics. Mothers may experience feelings of guilt, shame, or inadequacy, leading to challenges in their relationships and roles as parents. Partners may struggle to understand and support their loved one's emotional needs, experiencing stress and uncertainty themselves. Additionally, PMADs can disrupt family functioning, affecting the well-being of children and other family members.

Birth Trauma
Birth trauma refers to psychological distress experienced by individuals as a result of a traumatic childbirth experience. This can include feelings of powerlessness, fear, or helplessness during labor and delivery, and may result from medical interventions, complications, or unexpected outcomes. Birth trauma can have lasting effects on a mother's mental health, contributing to symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression, and impacting her ability to process and heal from the birth experience.

Infertility, Miscarriage, and Infant Loss
Infertility, miscarriage, and infant loss can profoundly impact emotional health, leading to feelings of grief, isolation, and anxiety. These experiences can trigger complex emotions, including sadness, anger, and guilt, which may be challenging to navigate. It is essential to recognize that these losses can contribute to PMADs and other mental health struggles. Providing support and a safe space to process these experiences is crucial in facilitating healing and helping individuals and couples cope with the emotional fallout of infertility and loss.

Couples and the Perinatal Period
The perinatal period can be a transformative yet challenging time for couples. As partners navigate the emotional and practical changes that come with pregnancy and new parenthood, they may experience increased stress and conflict. Couples therapy can provide a supportive environment to explore these changes, improve communication, and strengthen emotional connections. By addressing individual and shared experiences, couples can work together to foster a nurturing partnership, which is essential for their well-being and that of their growing family.

Parenting with Complex PTSD
Parenting with complex PTSD can present unique challenges, as individuals may struggle with emotional regulation, trust, and feelings of safety. Past traumas can resurface during the parenting journey, impacting one’s ability to engage fully and bond with their child. It is vital to recognize these challenges and seek support. Therapy can help parents navigate their complex feelings, develop coping strategies, and create a safe and nurturing environment for their children. Together, we can work towards healing and building resilience, allowing parents to engage more fully in their parenting journey.

Support and Healing
Recognizing the signs and symptoms of PMADs, birth trauma, and the emotional impact of infertility and loss is crucial for timely intervention and support. Counseling and therapy offer a safe and supportive space for individuals to explore their experiences, process their emotions, and develop coping strategies for healing and recovery. By addressing the impact of perinatal mental health challenges and trauma on mothers, partners, and families, we can work towards fostering resilience, understanding, and connection within the perinatal period.
